Homemade Masoor Dal Pulao Recipe

Ingredients:
1.5 cups basmati rice
3/4 cup whole masoor dal
2 onions sliced
1 big tomato chopped into small cubes
1 big carrot
7-8 french beans
1/2 cup green peas frozen/fresh
1 green chilli chopped finely
1 tsp ginger chopped finely
1 tbsp garlic chopped finely
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
2 black cardamom
4 cloves
1 tsp shahi jeera
1 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tbsp chilli powder
salt as per taste
Method:
Clean, wash and soak the rice and dal separately for half an hour. After the soaking time remove the water and keep aside for future use.
Peel, wash and cut the carrot into one inch long pieces.
Remove the string from the sides of the beans. Then wash them and cut into one inch long pieces.
Wash the green peas and keep aside for future use.
Heat a pressure cooker with 1/4 cup oil add the bay leaf, cinnamon stick, black cardamom and shahi jeera. When it splutters saute the garlic and ginger then add the sliced onions and fry till golden brown in colour.To it add all the veggies, turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Saute for a minute then add 2 cups water from the water kept aside. Give it a good mix then add the rice and dal.
Lastly add the chopped tomatoes. Do not mix.
Close the cooker lid. Cook upto 3 whistles on medium flame.
Once the pressure is released open the cooker and mix well.
Remove in a serving dish and serve with some yogurt, papad and pickle.
