Homemade Maharashtrian Pithla Recipe

Course : Side Dish

Cuisine: Indian

Servings: 4-5 pax

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time : 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup besan / gram flour

  • 3 cups water

  • 1 medium onion chopped finely

  • 2-3 green chillies chopped finely

  • 1/2 tbsp garlic chopped finely

  • 1 string curry leaves

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita/hing

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • salt as per taste

  • some copped coriander leaves

Method:

  1. In a bowl add the besan and water and mix well so that there are no lumps. Keep aside for future use.

  2. In a non stick pan or kadai heat the oil add the jeera when it splutters add the mustard ,hing and garlic . Saute for a second then add the onions and curry leaves. Cook till the onions are soft and translucent.

  3. Add the turmeric powder, green chillies and salt then give it a good stir.

  4. Switch off the gas and pour the besan mixture and mix well to avoid any lumps. Switch on the gas and cook the mixture on low flame stirring continuously. Cover and cook for a minute till bubbles are seen on the top.

  5. Remove form flame and pour it in a serving dish . Sprinkle some chopped coriander leaves.

Enjoy this yummy pithla with bhakri , chapati or rice.
