Homemade Jowar Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup whole jowar ( sorghum)
1/4 cup moong dal
1/2 cup carrots
1/2 cup french beans
1/2 cup frozen or fresh green peas
1 tsp finely chopped ginger
2 green chillies chopped finely
1 -2 tej patta (bay leaves)
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp hing ( asefodita)
1 tsp jeera ( cumin seeds)
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt as per taste
2-3 tbsp ghee or oil
Method:
Clean and wash the whole jowar then soak it in water for 6-8 hours or overnight. Drain all the water after the soaking time and coarsely grind the soaked jowar on pulse mode without adding any water. Keep aside for future use.
Clean and wash the moong dal and then soak it in 1 cup water for 10-15 minutes.
Peel the carrot and string the beans. Wash them and chop them into 1 inch long.
In a pressure cooker heat the ghee then add the hing and jeera when it splutters add the tej patta, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger and green chillies. Add all the chopped veggies and peas and sauté for a minute or two then add the moong dal and coarsely grinded jowar . Give it a good stir then add salt and 8 cups water. Close the cooker and cook the khichdi for 15 minutes on low flame.
Once the pressure is released open the cooker. Mix well and if it is too tick add some hot water.
Remove in a serving dish and garnish with 1 -2 tsp of ghee.
Enjoy this healthy and tasty khichdi with curds and pickle.
