Homemade Sri Lankan Cabbage Mallung Recipe

Homemade Sri Lankan Cabbage Mallung Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage leaves 250 gms ( have used home grown )

  • 1 small onion chopped into long pieces

  • 1/ 4 cup fresh grated coconut

  • 1 tsp jeera ( cumin seeds )

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • 1/2 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp jeera powder ( cumin powder )

  • salt as per taste

  • 1-2 tsp lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp oil

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and dry pat the cabbage leaves. Then chop it finely.

  2. In a bowl first mix all the dry spices along with coconut . Then add the chopped cabbage in the bowl and mix again till the mixture becomes moist .

  3. In a pan add the cabbage mixture and cook on high flame stirring at intervals for few seconds, then pour the oil over it and cover . Cook on low flame stirring at intervals for just 5 minutes, If it is too dry sprinkle some water so that it does not burn.

  4. Switch off the gas and keep it covered for few seconds.

  5. Squeeze lemon juice and mix well.

  6. Remove in a serving dish.

Enjoy this healthy mallung with rice or chapati.
