Homemade Upma Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rawa /sooji (semolina)

  • 3 cups water

  • 1 onion chopped finely

  • 2 green chillies chopped finely

  • 1 tsp ginger chopped finely

  • 1/2 lemon juice

  • 2 string curry leaves chopped finely

  • coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

  • 1 tbsp urad dal

  • 4-5 tbsp grated coconut

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 2-3 tbsp ghee

  • salt as per taste

Method:

  1. In a heavy vessel dry roast the semolina till light golden brown in colour. Remove in a plate and keep aside.

  2. Clean , wash and soak the urad dal in water for 5 minutes. Drain and keep aside.

  3. In the same pan heat 2-3 tbsp oil, add mustard seeds when it splutters add the urad dal, sauté it for few seconds till cooked. Then add the green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and onions.

  4. Cook the onions till soft then add the water, salt and sugar and allow it a boil.

  5. Add the roasted semolina and ghee to the boiling water and mix well. Cook on low flame for a minute or two or till all the water dries.

  6. Remove in a serving bowl and garnish with coconut, coriander leaves and some lemon juice.
