Homemade Turai Bharta Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg turai/ ridge gourd or sponge gourd

  • 2 nos chopped onions

  • 3 nos chopped tomatoes

  • 1 tsp jeera /cumin seeds

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita/ hing

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tsp chilli powder

  • salt as per taste

  • 2-3 tbsp ghee

Method:

  1. Peel, wash and then chop the turai into half moon shape. Then also chop finely the onions and tomatoes .

  2. In a kadai heat the ghee then add the jeera when it splutters add the asefodita, turmeric and the chopped onions. Cook on low to medium flame till the onions are translucent then to it add the chopped tomatoes and salt .Cook till soft and mushy. To it add the chilli powder and chopped turai. Mix well then cover and cook on low flame stirring at intervals till the turai is soft .

  3. Remove the cover and cook till all the water dries .

  4. Remove in a serving bowl and enjoy with chapati or parathas.
