Homemade Tomato Rice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup boiled rice

  • 1 big onion chopped finely

  • 3 tomatoes chopped finely

  • 2 green chillies chopped finely

  • 1/2 tbsp ginger chopped finely

  • 10-15 chasewnuts

  • 1 tbsp urad dal

  • 1 tbsp chana dal

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 4-5 cloves

  • 6-7 whole black peppers

  • 2-3 whole red chillies

  • 3-4 strings curry leaves

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1/2 tbsp chilli powder

  • 1/4 tsp garam masala

  • salt as per taste

  • some coriander leaves chopped finely

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and soak the rice for half an hour.Then boil the rice. Drain the extra water and keep aside. Wash both the dals also.

  2. In a pan heat 1/4 cup oil add the asefodita and mustard seeds when it splutters add both the dals when they start turning brown in colour add the cashewnuts, whole chillies, whole spices and curry leaves .Ssaute for a minute or two then add the onions, green chillies and ginger. Cook till the onions are translucent.

  3. Add the chopped tomatoes and salt, cover and cook till it is soft and mushy. Then add the chilli powder, garam masala and rice. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Remove in a serving dish and garnish with coriander leaves.
