Homemade Srilankan Yellow Coconut Sambol ( Pol Mallum) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole grated fresh coconut

  • 1 chopped green chilli

  • 6-7 currry leaves

  • 5-6 chopped small onions (shallots ) or 1 small regular onion

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 piece kokum

  • salt as per taste

Method:

1. Mix the turmeric and salt in the coconut . Keep aside for future use.

2. In a vessel or pan take 1.5 cups water add the chopped onions, green chilli, curry leaves and kokum in it. Boil the water on low to medium flame till the water is reduced to half the quantity and the onions are well cooked.

3. Then add the coconut to the water and cook on low flame till the water dries. Keep the coconut slightly moist.

4. Remove in a serving dish.

Enjoy this yummy sambol with string hoppers and tomato curry.
