Homemade Sama Rice Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sama/samak rice

  • 1 stick cinnamon

  • 2 cloves

  • 1/4 cup peanuts

  • 1 tsp chopped ginger

  • 1 chopped green chilli

  • 1/4 cup french beans

  • 1/4 cup carrots

  • 1/2 cup green peas frozen/fresh

  • 1 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • salt as per taste

  • 3 tbsp ghee

Method:

  1. Clean and wash the sama rice then soak it in 1 cup water for 10 minutes.

  2. Peel the carrot and remove the strings from the beans. Wash them properly then chop them into small pieces. Wash the peas and keep aside for future use.

  3. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pressure cooker then add the jeera when it splutter add the asefodita and the peanuts. Fry the peanuts till slightly brown in colour.

  4. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, chopped ginger, green chill, beans, carrot and peas. Fry for a minute on low flame.

  5. Then add the soaked sama rice with the water, chilli powder and salt. Stir and cook for another 1 minute.

  6. Add 4 cups water mix well and close the lid of the cooker. Cook on medium flame for 10 minutes.

  7. Once the pressure is released open the cooker. If the khichdi is too thick add some hot water in it.

  8. Remove in a serving dish and add 1 tbsp ghee on the top.

Enjoy this healthy sama khichdi with some pickle and papad.
