Homemade Panchmel Dal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups mix dal ( Tur, chana,Urad,Moong chilkewali and full masoor)

  • 2 big tomatoes chopped finely

  • 1/2 tbsp ginger chopped

  • 2 green chilies chopped

  • 2 whole red chillies

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tbsp red chili powder

  • 1 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1/2 tbsp jeera powder (cumin powder)

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)

  • salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp kasuri methi ( dried fenugreek leaves )

  • 3-4 tbsp ghee

  • some chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Mix all the above dals ( you can take any dal of your choice ) clean, wash and soak it for about half an hour.

  2. Pressure cooker the dal with turmeric powder, salt and 6 cups of water .

  3. Cook upto 3-4 whistles on medium flame.

  4. Take a pan heat the ghee add the jeera when it splutters add the asefodita, whole red chillies, ginger and green chilli saute for a second then add the chopped tomatoes cook for 5-10 minutes. Add all the above dry spices leaving out the garam masala. Cook till ghee leaves the sides. Add the cooked dal. Cook again for another 10 minutes.

  5. Lastly add the garam masala and garnish with coriander leaves.

    Serve this yummy and tasty dal with chapatis and rice.
