Homemade Oats Upma Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white oats (Quaker or any other brand)

  • 2 small onions chopped finely

  • 1 carrot chopped finely

  • 1 tsp chopped green chilli

  • 1 tsp chopped ginger

  • 2-3 strings chopped curry leaves

  • 2 tbsp washed and soaked urad dal

  • 1 tsp mustard seed

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • salt as per taste

  • some chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  1. In a pan dry roast the oats till light golden brown in colour.Remove and keep aside.

  2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds when it splutters put urad dal after removing the water from it. Saute for a minute then add the curry leaves, ginger, chilli and onions.

  3. Cook he onions till it is translucent then add the carrot. Cook till soft.

  4. Add the oats with 2 cups water. Cover and cook till the oats are soft and the water dries.

  5. Remove in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves.

Note: vegetables like french beans and peas can also be added to the oats upma.
