Homemade Moong Dal Idli Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 2 cups moong dal

  • 1/2 cup curds ( yogurt)

  • 1 ENO ( 5 gms) sachet

  • 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tbsp chana dal

  • 1 tbsp urad dal

  • salt as per taste

  • 2-3 chopped green chillies

  • 3-4 string chopped curry leaves

  • some chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and soak the moong dal in water for about 4-5 hours.

  2. Drain the water and in a grinder grind the dal into a fine paste.

  3. Clean, wash and soak the chana and urad dal in some water for 15 minutes. Drain the water completely and keep aside.

  4. In a small pan heat 2 tbsp oil add the mustard seeds when it splutters add both the dals and saute in the oil till soft then add the curry leaves and pour the mixture into the moong dal batter. Add salt,chopped chillies and coriander leaves into the batter and mix well.

  5. In an Idli cooker or vessel boil some water. Grease the idli moulds with oil.

  6. Add the ENO sachet in the moong dal batter and lightly mix. Pour some batter into the idli moulds and then place it in the hot water . Cover and steam on high to medium flame for 15 minutes or till the idlis are cooked.

  7. Remove from flame and let it cool down. With the help of a knife or spoon remove the idlis from the moulds.

  8. Repeat the process till all the batter is used up.

Serve these tasty soft and spongy idli with green chutney or coconut chutney.
