Homemade Khara Pongal Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 3/4 cup sona masoori rice or any other white rice

  • 1/4 cup split moong dal

  • 1/4 cup desi ghee

  • 1 tsp jeera ( cumin seed)

  • 1/4 tsp hing (asefodita )

  • 1-2 chopped green chillies

  • 2-3 strings chopped curry leaves

  • 1/2 tbsp chopped ginger

  • 1/2 tbsp whole black pepper

  • 1/4 cup chasewnuts

  • salt as per taste

Method :

  1. In a pressure cooker wash and soak the rice and dal together in 6 cups water and add salt as required i for about half an hour.

  2. Cook the rice and dal on medium flame upto 5 whistles.

  3. Open the cooker, mix the rice and dal together and add warm water only if required.

  4. In a small pan heat the ghee then fry the cashewnuts remove and keep aside. In the same hot ghee add the jeera when it splutters add the asefodita , whole peppers, curry leaves, chopped chillies and ginger.

  5. Pour the tadka on the pongal.

  6. Serve this yummy pongal with sambar or rasasm
