Homemade Horse Gram Dal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup horse gram ( Kollu/ Kulith)

  • 2 onions chopped finely

  • 1 big tomato chopped finely

  • 1 green chilli chopped finely

  • 1/2 tbsp chopped ginger

  • 1/2 tbsp chopped garlic

  • 1 tsp jeera ( cumin seeds)

  • 1/4 tsp hing ( asefodita)

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tbsp chilli powder

  • 1/2 tbsp coriander powder

  • salt as per taste

  • some chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and soak the horse gram overnight or for 7-8 hours.Drain all the water and keep aside.

  2. In a pressure cooker heat 2 tbsp ghee/ oil then add the hing and jeera when it splutters add in the garlic and ginger saute for a few seconds then add the onions, green chilli and turmeric powder. Cook till the onions are soft then add the chopped tomatoes. Cook till soft then add in the chilli powder , coriander powder salt and horse gram. Mix well and add 5 cups water.

  3. Close the cooker and cook upto 5 whistles .Once cooled open the cooker and mix the dal , in case the water is less add some warm water and if it more cook for a few minutes till the dal thicken a little.

  4. Remove in a serving bowl and garnish with some chopped coriander leaves.

Enjoy this yummy and healthy dal with rice.
