Homemade Dal Pakwan Recipe

Ingredients for Dal :

  • 2 cups chana dal

  • 4 cups water

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tbsp amchur ( mango ) powder

  • 1 tbsp garam masala

  • 5-6 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped

  • salt as per taste

For Tadka:

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds )

  • 2 tsp chilli powder

  • 4-5 green chillies chopped finely

  • 1 tbsp ginger finely chopped

Method:

  1. Pressure cooker the dal with 4 cups water ,turmeric and salt.Cook up to 4-5 whistles.

  2. Once the pressure is released open the cooker then mix the amchur powder and garam masala in it .The dal should be semi thick in consistency.

  3. For the tadka take a small pan heat 4-5 tbsp ghee to it add jeera when it splutters add the ginger ,chilli powder and green chillies.

  4. Remove the dal in a wide mouthed dish and pour the Tadka all over it Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Ingredients for Pakwan :

  • 4 cups maida (white flour)

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin ) seeds

  • 1 tsp ajwain (carom) seeds

  • 6-7 tbsp oil

  • salt to taste

  • oil for frying

Method:

  1. In a bowl add maida and mix salt, jeera, ajwain and oil in it. Make a semi hard dough by adding cold water as required. Keep aside for 10-15 minutes.

  2. Knead once again to make a smooth dough. Make small equal size balls of the entire dough.

  3. Take a ball place it on a rolling board and with the help of a rolling pin roll into thin puris. Make marks on the puri with a fork.

  4. Repeat the process till all the balls are rolled into puris.

  5. Heat some oil in a kadai and deep fry all the puris on medium flame till golden brown on both sides. Remove on a kitchen tissue .

    Serve the Pakwans with dal, green chutney, sweet chutney and finely chopped onions.
