Homemade Black Vatana Chaat Recipe

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 + 1/2 cups black Vatana

  • 1 big tomato deseed and chopped into small cubes

  • 1 big onion chopped finely

  • 1/2 tbsp chaat masala

  • 1 tsp kashmiri chilli powder

  • 1 tsp roasted jeera

  • 1/4 cup nylon sev

  • 6-8 bhel puri

  • 1/2 lemon juice

  • some chopped coriander and mint leaves

  • salt as per taste

  • 1/4 cup green chutney

  • 1/4 cup sweet chutney

Method:

  1. Clean , wash and soak the vatana in some water overnight or for 7-8 hours.

  2. Drain all the water and check once again for any hard vatana which needs to be removed.

  3. Take a cooker add 3 cups water,salt as per taste and the soaked vatana. Close the lid and cook on medium flame for 5-6 whistles or for 10 minutes.Once the pressure is released open the cooker and drain out all the water. Do not discard the water but use it for making dal or curries.

  4. Take a bowl add all the vatana and mix all the above spices that is chilli, chaat masala and jeera powder. Give it a good toss then sprinkle the chopped onions, tomatoes, green and sweet chutneys. Top it with some chopped coriander, mint leaves, lemon juice , nylon sev and crushed bhel puris.
