Homemade Black Pepper Tofu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms firm tofu

  • 1 yellow or any colour capsicum chopped into big cubes

  • 1 onion petals

  • 1 big onion chopped finely

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic

  • 1 green chilli finely chopped

  • 8 tbsp dark soya

  • 2 tbsp vinegar

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1-2 tbsp freshly grounded black pepper

  • 3 + 2 tbsp cornflour

  • salt as per taste

  • some chopped spring onions for garnishing

  • oil for shallow frying

Method:

  1. Cut the tofu into big cubes. Sprinkle 2 tbsp cornflour and 1 tsp salt. Lightly mix it .

  2. In one cup water add the cornflour, salt, pepper, sugar, soya and vinegar and mix well. Keep aside.

  3. Take some oil and shallow fry all the tofu in small batches till slightly brown in colour. Remove and keep aside for future use. In the remaining oil saute the capsicum and onion petals on high flame till soft but crunchy.

  4. In the same pan keep 3 tbsp oil and remove the extra oil. Heat the oil saute the garlic then add the chopped onions and green chilli cook on high flame till soft and translucent. Then add the cornflour mixture to the onions and cook on high flame stirring continuously.

  5. Add the tofu, capsicum and onion petals and give it a good toss. If the gravy is too thick add some more water to get a semi consistency gravy . Cook for few seconds.

  6. Remove from flame and garnish with some chopped spring onions.

Serve this yummy tofu with rice.
