Homemade Bitter Gourd ( Karela) Sabzi Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms karela (bitter gourd )

  • I chopped green chilli

  • 1 tsp chopped ginger

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin) seeds

  • pinch of asefodita

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp red chilli powder

  • 2 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin ) powder

  • 2 tbsp sauf (fennel seeds) coarsely grounded

  • 2 tbsp amchur (mango ) powder

  • salt as per taste.


Method:

  1. Lightly peel the skin of the karela and then cut it into small cubes removing the big seeds from it.

  2. Apply salt and keep it to rest for 1-2 hours.

  3. After 1-2 hours, wash the bitter gourd two to three times in water.

  4. In a pan heat 2 tbsp oil add jeera when it splutters add the asefodita then the ginger, turmeric ,bitter gourd, green chilli and salt.

  5. Cover and cook stirring at intervals till the bitter gourd is soft.

  6. Add the remaining spices to the bitter gourd and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  7. Remove in a serving bowl.

    Serve this sabzi with chapati or paratha.
