Homemade Bharwa Bhindi Recipe

Ingredients:

For Masala Stuffing :

  • 750 gms small thin bhindi ( okra)

  • 1/2 cup sauf (fennel seeds) roughly grounded

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tbsp chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder

  • 4 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1 tbsp jeera (cumin) powder

  • 6 tbsp amchur ( mango powder)

  • 3 tbsp oil

  • salt as per taste

For Tadka:

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/4 cup oil

Method:

  1. Firstly wash and dry the bhindi, then remove the top and tail of all the bhindi. Make a slit in the center of each bhindi taking care not to split them into half. Keep aside. If the bhindi are big cut into halves.

  2. In a bowl add all the ingredients for the masala stuffing with the oil and mix well

  3. Carefully open the bhindi from the slit and fill a little stuffing in each of them.

  4. Once all the bhindi are stuffed take a pan and heat the oil for the tadka. Add the asefodita then the jeera when it splutters add the turmeric powder and all the stuffed bhindi along with any extra stuffing that is leftover. Cook on low flame lightly stirring at intervals for 5-10 minutes. Cover and cook till the bhindi are soft. Do not overcook them. Once done remove from flame.

Serve this delicious bharwa bhindi with chapati or parathas.

Note: To make Bharwa Bhindi always use small bhindi as it is easy to stuff them and it taste better.
