Homemade Dal Dhokli Recipe

Ingredients:

For Dal:

  • 1 cup Tur Dal

  • 2 big tomatoes chopped finely

  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts

  • 1/2 tbsp garlic finely chopped

  • 1/2 tbsp ginger finely chopped

  • 2 green chillies finely chopped

  • few curry leaves finely chopped

  • some coriander leaves finely chopped

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)

  • 2-3 pinch of asafoetida (hing)

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tbsp chilli powder

  • 1/2 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin )powder

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • 1 tbsp jaggery

  • 1/2 lemon juice

  • salt as per taste

For Dhokli:

  • 1 cup wheat flour

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • 1/4 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • salt as per taste

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and soak the dal for half an hour.

  2. Take a pressure cooker add the dal, turmeric and salt. Cook upto 3-4 whistles.

  3. Once the pressure is released open the cooker and with the back of a spoon mash the dal into a fine paste, add water if required.

  4. Take a pan heat 2 tbsp oil or ghee add the asafoetida, mustard and jeera. Once it splutters add the ginger, garlic, green chillies, curry leaves and saute for a second.

  5. Add the tomatoes and the peanuts and cook till oil leaves the sides.

  6. Add all the dry spices, jaggery and the mashed dal and cook on slow flame for 5-10 minutes.

  7. Remove from flame and add lemon juice. Keep aside.

  8. In a bowl add all the ingredients for the Dhokli mix well and knead it into a soft dough similar to chapati dough.

  9. Keep it to rest for 15-20 minutes.

  10. Divide the dough into 2 equal size balls.

  11. Roll it into chapati which is of medium thickness and then cut it into square pieces.

  12. In a pan boil some water .

  13. Add all the cut pieces of the dough in the boiling water and cook for 15-20 minutes till it is cooked .Remove and keep it aside.

  14. Add the cooked dhokli in the dal and boil the dal again for 5-10 minutes.

  15. Remove in serving bowls and garnish with coriander leaves.
